There are times or seasons, casual to men, but known by God, in which alone he will give men success.  You don’t have to be religious to understand that this quote stands true of each day that we live our lives. Life is about perseverance, toleration and positive action. Sitting for hours upon end with your laptop or mobile phone at your fingertips, posting tweets and facebook status’s, moaning that you are not happy about something, and NOT actually DOING something positive to make a change, will not help anyone, and will certainly not get you to where you want to be.

A lot of people within the party are criticising the government, but it must be remembered that we don’t have a Conservative government, we have a coalition government, and in order for the coalition terms to be met, we as Conservatives must make a few small sacrifices for the sake and good of the country. Infighting and defections, stirring and childish behaviour will not help us to win the next election with a Conservative Majority. It must be remembered that we are all on the same team, and team work is needed for success.

I started out in the Conservative Party as Chairman of a very rural Constituency Conservative Future Branch. It’s an area where jobs are usually farm or factory work, but it’s also an area that is blue through and through. Not because the area is dominated by the upper class, or suit wearers, or Shiraz and Champagne sippers at private members club, but because the people understand the need of being thrifty, living within their means, and caring for their neighbours.

 A man does what he must – in spite of personal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures – and that is the basis of all human morality. Individuals are to be just that – individuals – all across the country, we find conservatives from all walks of life, a builder in Leeds, a Banker in London, a student in Manchester, a miner in Cornwall. Who would I be to judge someone if they wanted to go to a white tie dinner and drink champagne if they are spreading the conservative message amongst their circles? Who would I be to judge someone because they live on a dodgy council estate in the North, if they support the Conservative Party and want to spread the word amongst their friends? My point is, we need to stop judging each other, and get on with the job that needs doing, which is boosting membership, developing policies through the policy forum, engaging in social responsibility and showing Great Britain, just why WE can make Great Britain GREAT.
